MEET THE OPTOMETRIST
Dr. Celia A. Hinrichs is a nationally-recognized specialist in treating patients with multiple challenges including visual difficulties. She works extensively with children and adults who have challenges in learning or vision information processing, strabismus, special needs and/or brain injuries.
Patients of all ages with problems related to vision development, visual processing, learning disabilities and dyslexia are referred to Dr. Hinrichs by a wide variety of professionals. She works extensively with occupational therapists, educators, and parent groups in helping parents understand the relationship between vision and learning, and provides individual therapies to help patients succeed in school and the workplace.
An international lecturer on behavioral optometry, Celia A. Hinrichs, O.D., FCOVD has been practicing and teaching for 35 years. For the past twenty years she has had her own practice in Sudbury, MA. Dr. Hinrichs is the staff optometrist for New England Center for Children, a school geared to children with significant behavioral difficulties and autism. She is also an adjunct professor at the New England College of Optometry.
She is the past chair of the International Examination and Certification Board for the College of Optometry in Vision Development and won a President’s Award for her service. Dr. Hinrichs’ experience also includes teaching at New England College of Optometry, running a large practice, and examining patients and teaching interns at the Perkins Low Vision Clinic.
Dr. Hinrichs received her undergraduate degree at SUNY at Stony Brook in biology. She graduated from New England College of Optometry with honors and received the clinician of the year award.
